Spine and Sports Chiro to Host Fitness Lecture

“It’s my goal to get people off prescriptions and off a surgical table and back to functioning at 100 percent.” That’s according to Dr. Tim Dunne who is hosting a free fitness lecture at 6 PM Tuesday, July 30 at his office at 215 East Watauga, Suite 100 in Johnson City. Dr. Tim Dunne, who co-owns the chiropractic practice with his wife, Dr. Cindy Dunne, says, “Health comes from your body and not from medications or procedures.”

“Ultimately there is an easy-to-follow recipe for a healthy lifestyle.  Get more oxygen to your brain with healthy chiropractic, drink mineralized water, eat alkaline food, exercise six times per week, get massage, wear orthotics, sleep on a good mattress and have a daily meditation/prayer time,” he says. Dr. Dunne adds, “Health is defined in Dorland’s Medical Text as ‘functioning at or near 100%.’ The first system developed from conception is the Central Nervous System comprising the brain and spine. Every cell in your body requires nerves and blood, without nerves it is called paralysis and without blood it is called necrosis. Chiropractic maintains the brain to cell connection allowing normal communication and normal function.”

Dr. Dunne is available for health centered lunch and learns and health screenings for area churches and businesses interested in promoting a healthy lifestyle for their workforce and congregations. For more information “like” Spine & Sports Chiro on Facebook.
Drop by at 6 PM next Tuesday, July 30 for the fitness lecture. You may also email dunnechiro@gmail.com or call 423-388-3643 for more information.

Recommit to New Year's Resolutions for Weight Loss and Healthy Diet in the Summer

New Year's Eve bell seemed to be so far away that more than 50% people have already forgotten their New Year's resolutions to lose weight, exercise regularly and eat healthy by July. "It's about time to recommitting to your New Year's resolutions. And it's never too late. You can start any day, any time.  Winners don't quit," says Carey Yang,  a certified persona trainer and fitness expert in New Jersey.

Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC -- a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.

"I think most people put so much emphasis on the once-a-year all-or-nothing approach to lose weight that they're doomed to fail from from the get-go," Yang says. "The mindset needs to change. Just like everything else we do in life. We have the end goals in mind in the beginning, We have a plan. We have small actions step to tackle. We follow up and check our progress every so often. Then we modify or change the course to reach the goal.  It's the same thing as in the health, fitness and weight loss. People get caught up with so much media confusion."

Yang offers 7 steps to re-evaluate mid-year and to re-commit New Year's resolutions:

Step 1. Identify your three greatest accomplishments
Even if this year was a challenging year for you, odds are if you look close enough there’s something somewhere to be proud of.

Step 2. Analyze what you learned from each accomplishment
Now that you have identified your three greatest accomplishments, go back to each one. This time though identify exactly what you learned or were reminded of by each of them.

Step 3. Identify your biggest disappointments
Practically every company and individual resists analyzing their mistakes. That’s a shame because this is where the best learning comes from.

Step 4. Analyze what you learned from each failure or disappointment
No matter how great everything in life is going – we all make mistakes. The trick here is to really analyze them, what preceded them, what could you have done differently, and how can you prevent them in the future.

Step 5. Identify how you limited yourself last year and how can you stop
Were there certain actions you took or didn’t take that came back to haunt you? In order to make sure you don’t limit yourself again – you need to bring these self-defeating actions to the surface, confront them, and most importantly determine what you must do differently to make sure you don’t make the same mistakes all over again.

Step 6. Pragmatically review the information you have gathered
The goal of this exercise is not simply to know yourself and your business better but to actually use the information to make certain next year far surpasses this year.
What are the big takeaways from answering each question? What do you know about yourself or your business that you didn’t realize or weren’t thinking about?
Obviously, having this list isn’t going to do it all, you still need to take this new knowledge and use it.
Fortunately, that’s what the last question is centered around. And here it is…

Step 7: Use this Information to amaze yourself next year
The purpose here is to build in to your schedule, your interactions, your management style or whatever else you’ve surfaced in the previous questions and build yourself a new better approach.

5 Healthy whole grains and more in your diet

Whole grains took center stage a few years ago, when the Government recommended that the Americans will fill half of the dishes whole grain sources. It was an exciting win for dietitians, who are constantly trying to dispel all carbohydrates are bad.

Many consumers, however, was left to the packaging whole grain bread, brown rice and dishes. While these options are great ones, many people do not know what other cereals in the turn. Let's start first with the "why" behind the consuming whole grains--in other words, the interests of the grains, which have all the pieces and parts.

More from YouBeauty:
The best bread for your health
Surprising beauty benefits, popcorn
Eating these foods and lower cholesterol

Whole grain kernels are composed of three parts: the bran, endosperm, and germ. Each section offers a wide range of health benefits and nutrients. Bran is the outer layer that contains fiber, antioxidants, B vitamins and phytochemicals. Next, the fragments, which is the middle layer, which contains mostly carbohydrates, some protein, and small amounts of B vitamins and minerals. The innermost layer contains the germ, which contains all the healthy fats, (B) in the case of phytochemicals, vitamins and antioxidants. Accommodate the embryo and bran cereal variants (and all the wonderful components) to get stripped away, leaving behind starch-heavy and nutrient-deficient fragments.

Gluten-free grain is tiny in size, which allows it to be cooked quickly. It keeps the leading grain calcium content, which offers 123 milligrams per Cup, which is equivalent to half a cup of cooked spinach. Strangely, teff is also a great source of vitamin C, which is not usually found in grains. Super grain is also rich in starch, which makes for a very last managing blood sugar and weight control, and also helps the colon health.

The dense GRAIN is unprocessed and pretty chewy. One-fourth Cup is a hefty amount of protein, fiber and minerals than other grains. A healthy bonus: If you are looking for an interesting tidbit to share for the next dinner, how about this: because farro is a protective shell on the outside, harmful pesticides are not needed to protect against pollutants and insects. Nutty flavor of grain is the serving size 1 Cup, and low in calories and fat at the same time, plenty of fiber. Bulgur is thought to be due to the anti-inflammatory effects of Betaine content and cereals can help reduce the risk of developing gallstones and cancer, because of its high fiber content.

This grain is usually joined in pancake mix, but in the kitchen, the possibilities are endless. Buckwheat contains larger amounts of zinc (improve), copper (which may reduce neurological disorders), and manganese (which protects the bones) than any other grain. What is more, when compared with other whole grains, buckwheat contains the second highest number of protein and soluble fiber, which slows glucose absorption.

Barley is probably most famous for the grains, you know, and for good reason: it contains all the whole grains with the highest fiber content. In addition, it is loaded with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, which are essential for a healthy life. Scientific information has shown that barley may contribute to the reduction of several diseases, lower blood pressure and LDL (or "lousy") cholesterol and helping insulin sensitivity.

Trying to Get Healthy: Running or Walking?

Past studies have shown that walking and running provide almost the same reductions in hypertension and depressive symptoms. However a very large, recent American study has released a similar conclusion, and includes coronary heart disease on the list. However, that study actually favors running as the better activity.

To summarize the findings, "those how choose running achieved more than twice the exercise doses as those who choose walking, and given the strong dose-response relationship, higher exercise doses and lower risk factors, promoting more vigorous exercise, are likely to produce greater health benefits," the researchers wrote.
