Recommit to New Year's Resolutions for Weight Loss and Healthy Diet in the Summer

New Year's Eve bell seemed to be so far away that more than 50% people have already forgotten their New Year's resolutions to lose weight, exercise regularly and eat healthy by July. "It's about time to recommitting to your New Year's resolutions. And it's never too late. You can start any day, any time.  Winners don't quit," says Carey Yang,  a certified persona trainer and fitness expert in New Jersey.

Yang is the owner and master personal trainer at Beyond Fitness Solutions, LLC -- a leading in-home personal training and weight-loss management company serving and helping clients in Morris County, Sussex County, Passaic County, Essex County and Somerset County areas in New Jersey.

"I think most people put so much emphasis on the once-a-year all-or-nothing approach to lose weight that they're doomed to fail from from the get-go," Yang says. "The mindset needs to change. Just like everything else we do in life. We have the end goals in mind in the beginning, We have a plan. We have small actions step to tackle. We follow up and check our progress every so often. Then we modify or change the course to reach the goal.  It's the same thing as in the health, fitness and weight loss. People get caught up with so much media confusion."

Yang offers 7 steps to re-evaluate mid-year and to re-commit New Year's resolutions:

Step 1. Identify your three greatest accomplishments
Even if this year was a challenging year for you, odds are if you look close enough there’s something somewhere to be proud of.

Step 2. Analyze what you learned from each accomplishment
Now that you have identified your three greatest accomplishments, go back to each one. This time though identify exactly what you learned or were reminded of by each of them.

Step 3. Identify your biggest disappointments
Practically every company and individual resists analyzing their mistakes. That’s a shame because this is where the best learning comes from.

Step 4. Analyze what you learned from each failure or disappointment
No matter how great everything in life is going – we all make mistakes. The trick here is to really analyze them, what preceded them, what could you have done differently, and how can you prevent them in the future.

Step 5. Identify how you limited yourself last year and how can you stop
Were there certain actions you took or didn’t take that came back to haunt you? In order to make sure you don’t limit yourself again – you need to bring these self-defeating actions to the surface, confront them, and most importantly determine what you must do differently to make sure you don’t make the same mistakes all over again.

Step 6. Pragmatically review the information you have gathered
The goal of this exercise is not simply to know yourself and your business better but to actually use the information to make certain next year far surpasses this year.
What are the big takeaways from answering each question? What do you know about yourself or your business that you didn’t realize or weren’t thinking about?
Obviously, having this list isn’t going to do it all, you still need to take this new knowledge and use it.
Fortunately, that’s what the last question is centered around. And here it is…

Step 7: Use this Information to amaze yourself next year
The purpose here is to build in to your schedule, your interactions, your management style or whatever else you’ve surfaced in the previous questions and build yourself a new better approach.

Home Workouts

According to Fujii, Superwomen Boot Camp is not your typical ‘hard core’ boot camp – no one is going to yell in your face or intimidate you. It is a positive, empowering program designed for women of all ages and fitness levels. The training philosophy involves the use of multiple functional movements done in a circuit-training format for maximum fat loss and muscle toning. Only the most effective exercises are done, which is why participants see significantly faster and better results in only three workouts per week. And no workout is ever the same, so no one gets bored. In addition to obtaining impressive results, participants have fun and receive the support of other women that are looking to achieve the same goals and level of fitness.

“Our boot campers range in age from high schoolers to women in their 70’s,” says Fujii. “It’s great to see the women supporting each other and recognizing their successes.”

The cost for Superwomen Boot Camp is just $99 per month, which equates to only $8.25 per camp if attended regularly three times per week; an unheard of value in the healthcare industry.  The membership includes a nutritional plan for a complete health and fitness plan. “I’ve made Superwomen Boot Camp affordable for all women. It is a great value because participants receive the benefit of a personal trainer, the energy of a group fitness class and the expertise of a nutritionist at a very reasonable cost,” adds Fujii.

Superwomen Boot Camp meets at 118 Woodmere Road, #100, in Folsom, across from Harley Davidson. There is also a Superman Boot Camp and soon there will be a Super Kids Camp. For more information, call 916-337-4780.

Out-Of-The-Box Ways To Enjoy Summer Fruit

By Melinda Johnson for U.S. News Health: Nectarines, apricots and peaches: clear signs from the produce department that summer is here. For many, the warmest season isn't complete without a fresh, juicy peach or a watermelon seed-spitting contest. But summer fruit is so much more versatile than we think. Sure, blueberries are a great snack straight from the carton, but have you ever thought of adding them to a rice side dish? Here are some unique ways to use your favorite summer fruits, along with some very good reasons to indulge.

Blueberries: Full of vitamin C, fiber and the mineral manganese, these tiny blue powerhouses may help fight cancer. One recent study found that post-menopausal women who consumed more berries and peaches had a lower risk of developing breast cancer.

Out Of The Box: Toss fresh blueberries into a traditional chicken salad recipe. They provide a pop of sweetness that blends well with the savory, creamy texture of chicken salad.

Nectarines And Peaches: Both are good sources of vitamins A and C, as well as potassium. Nectarines are basically peaches without the fuzz, offering a different taste profile but similar nutrition. Research has shown that these fruits (referred to as stone fruits) have a compound that may help fight off diabetes and even obesity.

Out Of The Box: Grilling nectarines and peaches brings out their natural sweetness even more, and creates a decadent dessert without the calorie splurge. Just cut the fruit in half, brush on a bit of olive oil, and grill them for about 5 minutes or until browned. Drizzle with honey, top with a bit of vanilla ice cream, or simply enjoy as is!

Cherries: The bright red pigment in cherries is actually a powerful antioxidant, and cherries (especially tart cherries) have been linked to helping ease the pain in arthritis and gout, as well as preventing post-exercise muscle recovery pain.

Out Of The Box: Try making a cherry sauce to use with grilled pork or chicken: Take fresh cherries and sauté them with some shallots until they're soft. Add a tablespoon or two of red wine and about ¼ cup of broth, then simmer until sauce is reduced.

Raspberries: Nutrition-wise, these are similar to blueberries, and they boast a wide variety of phytonutrients. Recent research links raspberries to obesity prevention. The compound of interest, raspberry ketones, can be found in other fruits as well, and has admittedly been over-hyped based on one mouse study. Still, the pretty red berry offers plenty of nutrition and flavor, even if it won't melt fat away.

Out Of The Box: Freeze raspberries in ice cube trays to add a pretty touch and slight flavor to beverages like iced tea.

Plums: Like peaches and nectarines, these are also a stone fruit, and there are more than 2,000 varieties of plums. They're a good source of fiber and vitamin C, as well as other compounds that help regulate and relieve constipation.

Out Of The Box: Fruit soup can be a great way to use up summer fruit that's about to turn bad. Heat some apple juice and add chopped fresh plums and a cinnamon stick, simmering until soft. Discard the cinnamon stick, purée the mixture with a few ice cubes, then whisk in some plain yogurt. Serve chilled as an appetizer.

Watermelon: The epitome of summer fruit, watermelon is packed with the nutrient lycopene, which has been linked to lower rates of prostate cancer, as well as better eye health. Watermelon is also hydrating (as are all fresh fruits), and provides vitamins A, C and B6.

Out Of The Box: Summer salsa made with watermelon is a great way to balance the heat of traditional salsa. Combine fresh tomatoes, jalapenos, onions, cilantro, lime juice and watermelon. Add salt to taste, and refrigerate for an hour before serving to allow flavors to blend.
